Is Biased Journalism, Real Journalism?

We trust our journalists to be fair and accurate, believing they should provide news without being bias. Sadly our expectations aren’t always met and we are sometimes left with one-sided media.

When this happens it raises the question on whether or not the people providing the news are true journalist.

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines journalism as “a direct presentation of facts or description of events without an attempt at interpretation. ”

So, if the people providing the information spin the facts or present the information intentionally in their favor can they be considered true journalists?

I believe that they can’t. The media should be as unbiased as possible and if our news is being intentionally sabotaged the people responsible shouldn’t be able to claim the title meant for those who uphold the unspoken promise they make to the public which is simply to tell the whole truth.

Many people believe that Fox News is a bias station which can be seen through this clip from Outfoxed, by Rupert Murdoch:

What are your thoughts? Do you believe that even if a journalist twists information they can still be considered a true journalist or are they simply sharing their opinions like so many others do?
