The Blurring of News and Entertainment

As cable television continues to expand, so does the inclusion of news outlets on cable. More news outlets seems to mean more “talking heads” blurring the lines of what could be considered news and what is strictly entertainment.

As news media become more consumed with the idea of making more of a profit, they become more concerned with what their audience is wanting to watch.

This has lessened the restrictions on what is journalism and has lead to broadcasters shouting opinions, often times those of their viewers.

It has also lead to celebrity gossip making the nightly news. That begs the question, is that sort of news actually news?

As all this is going on, Comedy Central has blurred the lines even further with shows like the Daily Show and the Colbert Report, which many people get their news from.

At this point, is there any true journalism being done on national television?
