Journalism isn’t what it used to be

According to the San Francisco Examiner, The University of Colorado-Boulder’s journalism school has the possibility of closing down and to just be offered as journalism education.  The program will remain until a second committee, who is looking at other options, will present its findings by Dec. 31.

This isn’t the only thing that is taking a nose dive.

The Washington Independent, an online newspaper that has won several awards, is closing down after only three years.  Aaron Wiener, who writes for The Washington Independent, wrote an article talking about how it is ending.

Are journalism schools and newspapers slowly becoming a thing of the past?  There are debates in many of my classes on whether newspapers and “real” journalism is becoming obsolete with all the bloggers and independent writers out in the world today.
