Writing Tips for a Profile Story

Writing a profile can be difficult and confusing to new journalists. Profiles can be difficult because the writer wishes to show an accurate portrayal of the person they are profiling without offending them.

If you’re curious, the best thing to do is ask somebody who has had experience writing a profile.

For example, Pulitzer- Center sponsored journalist Beth Murphy has a few ideas for writing a good profile story.

Most sources of guidance advise against taking bribes from the person you are profiling. Not only can this land you in trouble ethically, your piece will suffer for it as well.
